About Us

okc-osdb.org is designed as an open forum through which users of open source databases can collaborate to grow the local ecosystem through discussion, meet-ups, and local conferences. – Mike Benshoof (founder)

This site was originally launched as a medium to connect users of MySQL in the Oklahoma City metro (okcmysql.org)  With the growing tech industry in the area, having a group to discuss trends and the general environment is important to create a thriving ecosystem.

While topics were geared towards MySQL, discussion on a wide variety of database technologies often ensued.  Through several discussions, it became clear that to continue to help the Open Source database environment move forward in Oklahoma, we needed to branch out to other database offerings.

Often times, MySQL can act as complete data storage solution.  However, it can also act merely as a complement to other technologies and those interactions are key in designing a scalable system.
